UltraBOOST DNA LOOP
Adidas begins trial of recyclable trainer as part of its drive "to end plastic waste"
Adidas has started a public trial of its endlessly recyclable UltraBOOST DNA LOOP trainer, created as part of the sportswear company's drive to conform to the principles of the circular economy. The trainers are entirely made from one material – Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) – and is assembled using heat rather than glue. This means that they can be returned to Adidas once they are worn out and remade into new trainers. The shoes were created as part of a push toward reducing its environmental impact and moving towards circular design principles. Adidas takes a massive step to end waste with the 3rd Generation of the Loop series, the UltraBOOST DNA Loop. This version comes to us on the back of two very successful pre-releases, expanding its original 200 testers to 1,500. The project, initially launched in April 2019. The brand has also teased an upcoming innovation alongside this project, the FUTURECRAFT.LOOP Anorak, expected to drop in 2021.
