The project has been developed initially by Emanuela Corti and Ivan Parati, both Italian designers and academics at Ajman University, a leading institution in the United Arab Emirates. The duo teamed up with Comftech and Alessia Moltani, a pioneer in textile sensors, funding the startup Witsense SRL in Monza, Italy.

sensewear
Sensewear is an inclusive collection of clothes and accessories that emphasize the use of senses.
At Witsense we created Sensewear, a collection of everyday garments embedding technology that can monitor life data and react to make wearer life less stressful. The project is inspired by therapies applied to Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD) a common condition in autism where the natural interface to the outside world is often impaired preventing a regular interaction with people and environment.
Since anxiety, stress and panic attack – some of the autism’s symptoms – are affecting a variety of people, we realized that our garments can have a positive impact on a bigger audience, therefore inclusivity is crucial to our project’s success.
The system is composed by a sensing unit, a smart t-shirt embedding textile sensors connected to an electronic device, and by satellite garments that embed therapeutic functionalities. An app help visualizing the wearer condition facing different situations, record data and progress with the scope of monitoring the wearer.
