Non-sterile surgical environments at hospitals or at Doctors Without Borders missions worldwide increase the risk of infection. Ordinary metal and plastic wash basins are heavy, take up space and provide only short-lived sterility. A sterile disposable wash basin made of cardboard is easy and cheap to produce and dispose of. In addition, it is environmentally friendly, as it is made from Norwegian or Finnish wood. Legislation in these countries demands that a new tree be planted for each tree chopped down.
