DEAFMETAL®
Deafmetals turn hearing devices into personalized jewelry, remove stigma, and keep aids safe.
How does it work?
DEAFMETAL® is a jewelry innovation for hearing device users. With Deafmetals you can transform any hearing device to capture your own style and personality, and also keep them safe from being damaged by falling, or getting lost. The key invention is a small and flexible design-patented silicone holster that easily fits around a hearing aid or cochlear implant processor, without causing auditory interference. With the DEAFMETAL® Holster stigmatized hearing devices become functional jewelry. Deafmetals are attached from the Holster to the ear with a hook-on safety ring, or a safety chain that forms part of an earring. For cochlear implants, Velcro stickers are used in coil covers, and for bone anchored hearing devices, a DM® Hook. Deafmetals can be purchased online through global suppliers, or through an expanding network of local retailers. DEAFMETAL® also works closely with audiologists and hearing aid manufacturers who use Deafmetals in health campaigns and clinical practices.
Why is it needed?
Hearing loss can impact anyone at any age, yet people often feel stigmatized wearing hearing devices. Shame greatly discourages their use, and hearing problems are ignored or kept hidden. Left untreated, hearing loss causes progressive effects like isolation, depression, memory loss, cognitive decline, and even dementia and Alzheimer's. DEAFMETAL® inspires earlier intervention, and the regular use of hearing devices. Deafmetals transform clinical-looking aids into appealing personalized jewelry items, with designs created for all ages, genders and lifestyles. The inherent safety features also keep aids securely attached to the ears, solving a constant, inhibiting challenge for device users.  Currently, 430 million people worldwide suffer disabling hearing loss. Most wait up to 10 years to seek out treatment, deeply influenced by stigma. While eyeglasses can be viewed as an attractive fashion accessory, hearing aids still feel and look like medical equipment. We're changing that.
How does it improve life?
DEAFMETAL® is shaping a world where hearing loss doesn’t carry shame or stigma; a world where hearing devices aren’t shunned or hidden. Deafmetals empower mental, physical and social well-being. By changing the way hearing devices look, we change how they’re experienced and perceived. Wearing life-changing aids with confidence fosters pride in identity, it builds acceptance in society, and it enables achieving true potential. By encouraging earlier and more regular use of hearing devices, we not only affect the good health and relationships of individuals, but we address a growing global health concern with preventable side-effects. DEAFMETAL® is spearheaded by a hard-of-hearing designer, and all our ambassadors and fashion models wear hearing devices. We utilize Deafmetals in publishing hearing loss stories, photos and fine art pictures, to specifically focus publicity on unraveling prejudiced ideas and harmful behaviors. DEAFMETAL® isn’t just a jewelry brand, it’s a movement.
