Helping university students with ADHD through meditation
The problem of being unable to focus while studying is one shared by millions of students globally, and ADHD students find focusing much more difficult because they are easily distracted by things going on around them. Universities do offer support to these students, but as ADHD is labelled as a specific learning disability (SpLD), they only offer the same support as that offered to students with Dyslexia. ADHD is a diagnosable mental health condition which affects all aspects of a person’s life, not just their learning, so in most cases students require more support than what is offered. By using an app which encourages meditation before studying and uses webcam based eye tracking to measure a user’s focus, students can begin to become more productive as their levels of sustained concentration increase.
