WasteX is piloting various projects across Southeast Asia in partnership with agricultural companies, independent mills, and livestock farms to turn biomass into higher-value products – all while helping to fight climate change. The development will provide an end-to-end solution to agricultural producers – from selecting the right technology, to certification for carbon credits. They address challanges such as biomass waste utilization at the farm level, heat production that is cheaper and more environmentally friendly, smallholders livelihood improvement as well as agricultural improvements.

Agricultural waste is a pressing environmental issue. Every year, farmers generate billions of tonnes of waste, including crop residues, livestock manure, and food processing waste. Unfortunately, much of this waste is not properly managed and ends up in landfills or is incinerated. This not only creates pollution but also wastes valuable resources that could be reused or recycled. For this reason valorising waste holds significant potential. WasteX was launched to tackle the problem of 3.5 billion tons of agricultural processing waste globally that is dumped, burnt, or sold cheaply.

WasteX is a good exemple that show that, with proper management, waste can be reduced and reused in a way that benefits both the environment and the economy.
