Thermal regulation through additive manufacturing
How could we inhabit desert areas, and regulate temperature in extremely hot/cold environments?
How does it work?
This is a printed habitat built for people living in desert temperatures. It consists of a structural element with a windcatcher, a water cellar and a solar chimney/thermal mass. All of these provide natural ventilation in an extreme climate.
Why is it needed?
Deserts cover 33% of land on earth and expands along with population growth. 1/6 of humans lives in desert conditions - 5 million people die each year due to excessive heat/cold. Temperatures in northwestern Sahara fluctuates from 42°C during day, to 4°C at night. This is a home for them to live in.
How does it improve life?
This is a Masters project from the Royal Danish Academy.
