Mining remains a highly dangerous occupation.Based on extensive field research on the experiences, fears, and desires of Chinese miners, Enhanced Miners’ Protective Equipment proposes a number of life- saving improvements to mining gear, including a carbon fibre reinforced structure for helmets that enhances impact resistance and shockproof foam to cushion against impact. The design’s integrated radio communication equipment, lamp and goggles allow for easier storage and wear; a dust towel lining protects against ash and debris, and an enhanced ventilation mask provides improved comfort and performance.
