The Beacon At PNC Tower
a LEED Platinum-certified office building with features that mimic a living organism
The Tower is an effort to advance green building design. It’s an investment in the well-being of the city of Pittsburgh. And it’s a commitment from PNC to be a good global citizen and develop a sustainable model for the world beyond. PNC worked with an integrated design team to push the limits of how green a building can be. As architect, Gensler designed a glass façade and narrow floorplates, among other features, to bring sunlight and fresh air deep into the building. BuroHappold Engineering designed systems to measure weather conditions, optimize sunlight and natural ventilation, reduce waste, and recycle water. And Paladino and Company served as sustainability consultant, advising how to improve the Tower’s performance while minimizing its environmental impact.
