The Safe Delivery App is a mobile health tool to improve the quality of maternal and neonatal care in low-income countries. Through simple, animated clinical instruction films birth attendants are instructed in how to handle both normal and complicated deliveries. Every year, 289,000 women die from pregnancy related causes globally. 99% of these women come from developing countries. Many of these deaths could have been prevented if the women had given birth with skilled birth attendance. But in Sub-Saharan Africa there is an acute lack of skilled birth attendants. The Safe Delivery App is a solution to this problem. By combining mobile technology with quality training, The Safe Delivery App can upgrade the skills and knowledge of birth attendants in remote areas and hereby overcome conventional barriers such as: - reaching peripheral health facilities with quality training; - training health workers with low literacy and - low retention of skills.
