PeppHeart
Improving cardiovascular health for UK youth
How does it work?
The design consists of a card and app system designed to support young people in their healthy-eating journey, from the supermarket to the kitchen table. Heart-healthy foods are subsidised through the card and the accompanying app provides cooking guidance and recipe recommendations based on the users' needs. The app allows the user to track their cooking progress and their intake of fruit and vegetables, setting goals across the month that they can achieve. This avoids the typical calorie counting approach to eating healthy, instead focusing on building a varied, home-cooked diet full of nutrients, fresh ingredients and flavour.
Why is it needed?
Most cardiovascular diseases (CVD) can largely be prevented through a healthy lifestyle. Often young people within low-income households do not build healthy eating habits due to socio-economic barriers. This results in both long and short-term health consequences.
How does it improve life?
PeppHearts wants to improve cardiovascular health and address health inequalities in relation to cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the U.K.
