The Biodegradable Kimono
The design promotes using the appropriate natural resources for the appropriate garment life cycle
The Biodegradable Kimono is made from crepe paper, it is taking the notion of fast fashion and appropriating the materials being used. Garments that are only going to be worn 4 times should be made from a material that is only going to last 4 wears. Thus, the kimono can live a guilt-free fast life cycle whilst minimising the environmental impact. The kimono is stitched together with viscose thread, so isn't mono-material. I will overcome this issue by laser cutting the seams so that they are perforated and can be ripped off at end of life and recycled separately. The kimono itself can be recycled in mainstream paper recycling facilities.
