BVKit is a device and accompanying app that allows women to test for vaginal infections at home. Designed to test for the most common infection women face - bacterial vaginosis or BV – the kit is composed of a reusable pH sensor and a downloadable app called Vaginosis. The user urinates in a cup and dips in the sensor, which reads the pH levels of the urine sample and sends them to the app using Bluetooth. The app then analyses the reading to determine whether there’s an infection. If the reading determines BV is present, the app will also list nearby doctors who can provide treatment. Beyond its medical value, BVKit encourages women to speak openly about their reproductive health, removing a social stigma that endangers women worldwide.
