Reusing is more energy efficient than recycling, but sharing is a vanishing concept in industrialised nations partly due to declining social interaction at neighborhood level. Sharer provides a convenient and secure way of sharing household objects and appliances in an entire neighborhood, extending the life of redundant articles. The lender simply uploads images and text to the sharer website. From here a borrower can browse the database and request items for a permanent loan, and the system automatically estimates local shipping charges, insurance and the borrowing cost. Articles are handled by the local post office, as each sharing system only covers one postal code.
