Solar Pasteurisation Unit
A portable solar pasteurisation unit to clean water, surgical instruments and cook food without the use of wood

Functionality and use of design
Let the sun shine through the front side of the unit. Wait until the arrow in the thermometer, (with an icon everybody understands) says it is ready. The first portion takes 1.5 hours to be ready. The second portion takes 30 minutes. The unit is easy to stack for air transport.

How did this design improve life?
1.1 billion people, in this world do not have clean drinking water. This solar pasteurisation unit, made with plastic packaging technology, pasteurises water, AIDS infected breast milk, cooks food, sterilizes surgical instruments. No water. No life. That is improving life. The unit contains two liters or a whole 1.5 liters soda bottle. Both bottle and the substance inside get cleaned. The unit can be used without bottle, it is easy to transport and stack. A prototype has been tested in Tanzania with positive results.

Drawbacks of life improvement
You cannot use the unit without sunshine.

Research and need
Research is done in Tanzania by a medical team. The prototypes have been tested and the water was found ok for drinking. The National Board of Health has been in Africa to check. M.d Anders Fjendbo, who is also a specialist in tropical diseases and infections, has been in front of the research.
