Die Bürgerlis
A digital and activating awareness campaign on children's rights for young and old
How does it work?
The "Die Bürgerlis" project consists of a website that educates children and adults about children's rights. Since these are two different target groups, there are two website variants, that aim the special needs of both target groups. However, both website variants belong to a holistic concept. They are interactive and supported by illustrations to make the content more accessible. The children's website is structured more playfully and is experienced in a horizontal format. Children are very familiar with this format through interaction with books or digital gaming and learning applications. The page for the adult target group is designed in a more factual manner and in a classic vertical website format. Unfortunately, the website of "Die Bürgerlis" cannot be experienced online at the present time, as the necessary funding for programming is lacking. The project is my bachelor thesis and therefore exists in the form of a digital prototype.
Why is it needed?
The so-called UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was passed by the United Nations in 1989 and has been in force in Germany since 1992. To this day, children's rights are not enshrined in our Basic Law. So far, implementation has been blocked by a controversy between the political parties in the German Bundestag. Respect for children's rights plays an important role in child development. There is currently a gap in communication, which means that very few children and adults are aware of these rights to this day. There is a lack of awareness of the importance of children's rights in our society. With my work, I would like to draw attention to this socially relevant topic and make the content of children's rights easily accessible for children and adults.
How does it improve life?
My project aims to help children to support the basics of emancipation. It should sensitize adults to see children as independent personalities with their own rights. In addition, the political pressure for the inclusion of children's rights in the Basic Law should be increased through the clarification.
