How does it work?
Ramtsilo is a 100% black female owned company that has created a Circular Green Economy in the Plastic Recycling and Building Material Industry. The plastic bricks have created direct and indirect employment for a number of young and old individuals in our operations, in the recycling industry and the construction industry. ? The bricks comprises of 30% Plastic to ensure effective fire resistance. They are suitable for general building work that is to be plastered where durability rather than aesthetics is the key selection criteria.
Why is it needed?
Not only do they reduce plastic waste, create jobs for waste pickers in Africa but also for people in the construction industry. In addition to that they give non-recycable plastic a second life as durable, fireretardent houses in Africa.
How does it improve life?
Ramtsilo is South Africa’s first plastic brick manufacturing plant, not only to have brought innovation to the industry –a certified plastic brick– but are also blazing a trail for recycling, social responsibility and grassroots empowerment. They are able to recycle any type of plastic which traditional recycling methods are unable to do. In working closely with women and youth unskilled workers, what makes them stand out is how construction friendly their bricks are, as there is no need for contractors to purchase any special material to use in conjunction with their bricks.
