BioCellection
BioCellection's solution is to upcycle plastic pollution into valuable materials for textiles.
BioCellection (BC) is using a two step process to tackle plastic pollution one plastic at a time. We are coupling chemistry and synthetic biology together to create a novel process that breaks down plastics into usable building blocks that are then turned into other valuable materials. We are starting with polystyrene and polyethylene film because it has very low recyclability, and makes up one third of marine pollution. BC was founded by technical co-founders who have worked on the science behind the developing invention for the past five years and currently hold three provisional patents for this technology. BC began as a science fair project from high school. Since then, the research and development has evolved to take on to not only ocean plastics, but polystyrene and film plastics that are being thrown into the landfill each year. Currently the management team receives mentorship from world-class experts in science, biotech scale-up, and business development, and has investors.
