Zero Acre Farms
Giving the world a vegetable oil change
How does it work?
Zero Acre Farms are introducing a new category of healthy oils and fats, made by fermentation, not deforestation. Through fermentation, they can produce oils and fats with the lowest levels of the bad fats that have been linked to inflammation and disease, while having a small environmental footprint.
Why is it needed?
20% of our daily calories now come from vegetable oils. Vegetable oils have been linked to inflammation and chronic disease, including heart disease, now the leading cause of death in the world. Two of the top three drivers of global deforestation are vegetable oil crops. Deforestation is the second largest contributor to climate change, after fossil fuel combustion.
How does it improve life?
The new oils haven't been launched just yet, but are premiering sometime in 2022. But Zero Acre Farms is on a mission to remove destructive vegetable oils from the food system. They want all restaurant deep fryers, home pantries, and packaged foods around the world to be free of harmful oils and fats. And as today, we consume more vegetable oils globally than beef, chicken, cheese, and shrimp combined, there's a lot of potential impact to be made.
