Photodermis
Photodermis is a light harvesting, compostable, malleable and locally produced modular energy system
Photodermis is a journey throughout a theoretic-scientific, experimental and speculative investigation that proposes a compostable and locally produced renewable energy system. This is an incipient Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)-based technology which tackles the collective commitment to ecosocial change, as it is developed with organic materials which are not the currently and generally used ones for this type of cells. Photodermis is proposed to be developed by self-production and digital fabrication techniques. It discusses the use of an alginate-based conductive biopolymer as the substrate, and a coffee waste-made dye as the photosensitizer of DSSCs. In this way, the technology is flexible and organic, with an experimental efficiency of 3,63% and a promising energy payback of only 1 year. This project opens up new paths for investigation while spreading questions to perform as catalysts for social dreaming of a technologically advanced but more respectful world.
