Instinct
Detecting and monitoring forest fires in time
Climate change is making wildfires increasingly more devastating. Large forest fires were over 500% more frequent in the 2000s than in the 1970s, causing a 1,200% increase in acres burned. Current methods of detecting fires are slow and unreliable. This is a serious shortcoming because the larger the fire gets, the faster it spreads and the more difficult it is to contain. Instinct is a versatile environmental monitoring platform, creating a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) dedicated to rapid wildfire detection and multi-purpose environmental monitoring. The sensor units are actively sampling to pick up the ‘signature’ of a fire. This data is immediately sent to the mobile app or desktop client which will automatically notify users if a fire is detected. Emergency response or drones can then be automatically dispatched to the exact location where the fire was detected for further immediate inspection.
