Every year, tens-of-millions of amenity kits are thrown away by hotel chains. Those single used items are normally made of very long-lasting plastics but, do you really need your hotel amenity kit to last forever? The Green Box is an amenity kit to help hotels transition to a circular economy. Every item of the kit was designed to be made of a compostable materials and once used, the kit items can be industrially composted in a controlled environment. After 10 weeks of the methanisation process this kit might produce enough energy to power a standard LED light bulb, for over 27h. The extra organic matter left could be used as a soil fertilizer. To go step further, the Green Box also creates awareness about these new materials to hotel guests. That is why each room includes a disposable bin, that would familiarise guests with the new kind of waste-stream. The guest will sort green items as compostable and the whites, too bacterial contaminated, will go to the normal waste stream.
