Circular Ceramics
Minimises the consumption of finite raw materials and diverts waste away from landfill.
Sara has designed an industrial symbiosis around the ceramics industry whereby the waste by-products from external manufacturers, replace the finite raw materials in ceramic production. The Circular Ceramics tableware range is made entirely of glass, stone, construction and ceramic industrial waste. All of Sara's methods are open source and are outlined in her book which is hand bound using thread from plastic bottles and printed on paper made from single-use coffee cups. Sara is currently working with small scale ceramic producers to apply these material substitutions to their production, ensuring there is little or no change to the typical outcome of their work. These small scale ceramic producers will then act as a proof of concept to mass manufacturers who may be more hesitant to make these changes.
