CONNECTED HELMET
A helmet that offers two-way communication between the wearer and drivers to help prevent accidents
Volvo Cars worked with sports equipment manufacturer POC and telecommunications company Ericsson to create a helmet that can connect with the auto brand's vehicles. Volvo said that it had created the cloud-based system to alleviate the growing number of cycling-related collisions and deaths occurring due to more bicycles on the roads. The connected car and helmet prototype aims to improve safety by establishing two-way communication, offering proximity alerts to Volvo drivers and cyclists to hopefully avoid accidents. Using a smartphone app for cyclists, like Strava, their position can be shared through the Volvo cloud to the car, and vice versa.
