Aerones Firefighting Drone
Drone could help firefighters by putting out fires from above
A Latvian company in the business of creating robotic technology for windfarm maintenance has developed a drone that can put out fires. Aerones says their drone can fly over 900 feet, which is 9 times higher than a fire truck's ladder. It's powered by 28 motors and is strong enough to carry up to 200 kilograms (440 pounds) in weight. The drone is fitted with a water hose from a fire truck, and is controlled by a pilot on the ground remotely. The drone is still in development — it can only stay in flight for 30 minutes after a 90-minute battery charge — but the company has been carrying out several firefighting tests and hopes to use the machine for real-life operations soon.
