INDIAN MEMORY PROJECT
Tracing the history of Indian subcontinent via personal images & narratives.
The Indian Memory Project is based on an insight that personal images along with narratives can reveal themselves as evidences of world history. Equipped with limited resources to create & sustain the archive, we chose an open source, robust online platform, WordPress; for its aesthetic & functional customisation, a simple back-end for updates & management, provisions for categories & tags, and access to all devices. The design communicated the archive as honourable, respectful, warm & user friendly and most importantly, useful. All images & narratives to the archive are sent in from across the world, (online & offline), and are curated, edited, elaborated, categorised, key-worded and posted. The image establishes the first context; obeying the rule of non-fiction & the narrative indexicalises the photograph. With 750 categories devised from images & narratives- world events, eras, cultures, social structures & circumstances- a visually informative, and powerful history is revealed.
