ParkUp
A placemaking project that helps revitalize idle city spaces into locally-adapted open spaces.
Over years, rapid development in cities causes problems. The Influx of population and imperfect urban planning left abundant vacant space with little and open characters. In Taipei City, ParkUp was initiated to revitalize those idle spaces by conducting a series of spatial experiments. The series follows 3 principles(under 165 m², inclusive design, localization) and supports by 1 modular assembling system(ParkUp Tools). To avoid the space falling into unused again, all design keeps its form simple and flexible to meet the needs of local community. In ParkUp GT, we discovered residents enjoy hanging out their quilts. By setting up 9 steel frames, apart from daily needs, they can also suit other outdoor events. In ParkUp DT, one can see kids chasing, elders stretching and wheelchairs passing all in a neighborhood park. In ParkUp SYC, so as to fit surrounding design events, the wood platforms can be rearranged accordingly. Little by little, ParkUp makes a better city we can all share.
