Atando Cabos
Atando Cabos recycles plastic waste from Patagonia integrating local communities in the process
Atando Cabo set out to work on the pollution of Patagonia, drawing up a plan to recover almost four thousand tons of plastic waste from the island of Chiloé (product of salmon farming and mussel farming). For this, the project was divided into stages, the first consisted in the research and development of a technology capable of processing this waste efficiently, both economically and operationally. Then there was an information survey, this showed that there were about 4,000 tons of disused marine capes. A logistic model was created with the objective of collecting and classifying the waste, to then transport 2 tons a week to Santiago (Distance of 1,032 km ) Once the material is in Santiago, it is crushed (highly complex process) and then washed, where organic remains, salts and sands are extracted, to be filtered and transformed into pellets. Finally, high quality and performance products are produced such as recycling bins to teach children how to integrate into the circular economy
