Ore Streams
‘Ore Streams’ offer ways in which design can be used to correct flaws in the e-waste stream systems.
Today, electronic waste is the fastest growing stream of waste globally. Even if in several countries legislation is in place to ban the irresponsible management of e-waste, stakeholders and lawmakers underestimate what could be done design-wise to improve the status quo. Simple global design strategies could be implemented to prevent waste, encourage repair, and create a more efficient recycling process.
In 2017, Studio Formafantasma started an investigation on the current state of electronic waste management. The project, titled ‘Ore Streams’, makes use of a diversity of media including a website, animations, videos, interviews, and a series of objects that act as a Trojan horse to address the topic from multiple perspectives. The goal is to offer a platform for reflection and analysis on the meanings of production and how design could be an important agent in developing a more responsible use of resources.
