Fragile Packaging
Making transporting valuable goods less wasteful with an adaptable, re-usable packaging system.
An inquiry into the materiality and the typologies of transport packaging for valuable goods. Fragile is a method for shipping valuable goods. By using the properties of an elastic composite membrane, Fragile traps objects of different shapes and weights in an immediate bespoke packaging. A standard for the non-standards. A quick method to ship works of art, collectibles and other singular objects in a package that is reusable, washable, reparable, modular, collapsible. Fragile is designed to work within a recollection scheme, where packs are reclaimed and reused and owned by the seller rather than bought by the owner of the transported object. We can imagine Fragile used in museums and galleries but also being adopted by generalist sellers such as Amazon or shipping companies like the Royal Mail. As on-line commerce raises up, more and more goods are shipped individually from warehouses to individual customers, therefore, its handling and footprint should be re-evaluated.
