Flexible and stretchable electronic circuit tattoos to remotely monitor the wearer's health
No matter how smart and functional they might be, wearable health and activity tracking devices are still rigid devices that stick out because they don’t conform to the human shape. MC10 overcame the rigidity of these devices with the “epidermal electronics” that stick directly to the skin like temporary tattoos. The electronic components made from brittle silicon-based wafers were printed in very small pieces and arranged in wavy patterns to provide elasticity. The tattoo is capable of remotely monitoring patients in healthcare, in flexible environments outside the hospital. Monitoring them in their normal environment doing usual activities could provide more accurate results. Other applications include a patch to let an athlete know when and how much to hydrate for peak performance, or to tell you when to apply more suncream.
