The 3-pin plug as a design has remained unchanged for nearly 70 years, and was originally designed for large, power hungry appliances and devices - such as vacuum cleaners and electric bar fires. The goal of this project was to re-imagine what the plug would look like if it was designed with modern, low powered devices in mind. The most radical change from existing plugs is the removal of the pins, which opens up a host of new benefits. It allows the plugs to be sealed and waterproof, as well as being immune to electrocution and allows the plugs to stack on top of each other - with multiple plugs sharing a single socket. The sockets feature lights to intuitively but subtly inform the user about how much power they are drawing, as each socket has it’s limit as to how much it can provide. The plugs feature rounded edges to aid in removal, and have soft silicone cable protectors to protect them from damage.
