Let Me Re-Live Recycling bins
This recycling bin series is to provide people with an exciting interactive experience of recycling.
This is a new type of recycling bin series. To research, I had taken pictures a number of trashcans in many other places such as an airport, on campus, and many other public places. Interestingly, I realized that many of the trash or recycling receptacles have swing lids on them. I decided to use an optical illusion by using lenticular printing on the swing lids. I put two images on the surface, so that when people recycle the trash, they can see the different images. It works because it is fun, playful, and can create a sense of curiosity. In addition, the action pushing the lids relates with the message. When people push the lids of receptacles to throw away the trash into the recycling bin, they can recognize the new information. My purpose is to provide people with an interactive experience of recycling. In the closed position, the images are the material itself, but when opened, the image shifts to the object the recycled into.
