Common Ground
Common Ground helps formerly incarcerated young adults to successfully re-enter society.
Seven million people are affected by the U.S. justice system - 2.3 million are incarcerated and 3.9 million are on probation. There is a current shift to serve the unique needs of 18-25 years olds within the adult criminal justice system. Despite this shift, there are still many psychological and external barriers, which result in a recidivism rate of 68%, the highest of all age groups. 26% return to prison within the first three months of release. Common Ground is innovative because of its focus on young adults, a group most likely to return to jail or prison without intervention and assistance. Unlike other programs, Common Ground brings multiple agencies and organizations together to do the following: • Empower young adults to create a positive path forward • Leverage technology to provide information on resources • Use environment and technology to engage young adults • Strengthen critical relationships around the young adults
