bio-bean ltd
bio-bean recycles waste coffee grounds into advanced biofuels, designing tomorrow, today.
bio-bean was founded by architecture student Arthur Kay, 25, two years ago. Set the task of designing a coffee shop, he realised coffee was being wasted everywhere and founded bio-bean, an award-winning clean technology company that has industrialised the process of recycling waste coffee grounds into advanced biofuels and biochemicals. At the world’s first waste coffee recycling factory, bio-bean produces biomass pellets and briquettes and, in the near future, biodiesel and biochemicals. bio-bean can process 50,000 tonnes of waste coffee grounds, one in ten cups of coffee drunk in the UK, addressing two global concerns. 1.) Responsible waste collection and disposal: the UK's 500,000T of waste coffee grounds cost the industry £70m to dispose of in landfill or incineration. 2.) Clean, cheap energy production: bio-bean produce local, sustainable green energy products, contributing to UK energy security. bio-bean's solution turns the challenges of urbanisation into opportunities.
