When discussing e-learning and online classrooms, the conversation often focuses on its limitations. The lack of physical interactions with peers, overused interactive tools and the fatigue of sitting in front of a screen. But the future of learning isn’t so bleak when you step into the world of CanopyLAB; an ed-tech transforming online learning and increasing access to education worldwide.
CanopyLAB is a platform for educators to teach, engage and keep up with their students. It offers collaborative learning methods like journaling, quizzing, debating, brainstorming and role-play to name a few. With more than 55+ templates, there are a multitude of ways to engage any student in any format. The edge to CanopyLAB is a two-letter word: AI. Created to help users, it recommends appropriate exercises based on learning materials and can even write the text that will sell it to the students.
For students, the platform looks quite similar to known social media websites. You have a profile, a news feed and a place to share your own or follow others’ educational journey. This is because CanopyLAB sees education not just as a hub, but a community.
Whether you're an educational institution or a private company, the platform can be tailored to anyone’s brand, material and learning style ― and many have accepted that offer. As of 2021, CanopyLAB services more than 200 companies in more than 20 countries from offices in Colombia, Denmark, Peru, the United States and Vietnam.
The structure and contents of the platform are backed up by the CEO and Co-Founder Sahra-Josephine Hjorth’s PhD research. While working at Aalborg University in Denmark, Hjorth researched social media, virtual learning environments and what it means to be empowered through learning. Her work became the basis of a company that is optimising every aspect of e-learning globally and whose core mission is to reimagine the way we learn digitally.
CanopyLAB has grown exponentially since its founding in Copenhagen in 2015 and there’s huge momentum for continuous growth and impact. In 2020, e-learning switched globally from being an option to a necessity, and the ed-tech sector welcomed a huge boost. The spendings on ed-tech are expected to double within the next 5 years, and investors have been embracing the ongoing rise by almost doubling investments since 2018.
