Trijak – a new watercraft
The goal with the Trijak project was to unite what is good with kayaks today, with other watersports to create a broader area of use and a broader group of users. Through developing a kayak – like hull with outriggers – the Trijak was born.

Functionality and use of design
The Trijak Is a new type of kayak with stabilizations.
The Trijak allows you to do paddling without risking turning over. You can also do kite sailing, fishing, sunbathing and diving from the Trijak. The Trijak makes paddling and sea-life available to allot more people thanks to the outriggers.

How did this design improve life?
Kayak paddling is an increasing sport in Sweden and in allot of other countries. It becomes more and more popular as well as other outdoor sports. The kayak has been developed during hundreds of years to become the ultimate paddling craft.

The Trijak is a new type of water craft, a stable and fast going kayak with outriggers and rudder. The purpose was to make possible a combination between paddling and sailing and to make kayaking and other watersports as kiting and fishing accessible to a bigger range of people. This new target group includes people with certain functional disabilities. But, the Trijak also improves life for the experienced paddler by adding kiting, diving, fishing and sunbathing into the sport. It is a new water craft that offers the paddler a more flexible and fun life at sea.

Drawbacks of life improvement
One disadvantage could be if the Trijak is looked up on as a kayak with "support-wheels". Therefore it is very important to promote the product right. In this aspect the look of the product is a determining factor for the products acceptance on the market.

Research and need
A comprehensive research report of 80 pages was written to collect important information about kayaks and construction.

A boat-constructor at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm was consulted about his opinion of the technical functions. He pronounced that the project was fully feasible. Paddling and kiting experts where also consulted through the project, as well as a number of ordinary amateur paddlers and sailors. Designing the Trijak had to be done very carefully since every shape effects the function.

It was necessary to think through and carefully examine the consequences of every line and curvature. Water, wind and wave resistance, center of gravity, traction force and floating characteristics was parameters that had to be considered.
