SAM (Sound Activity Meter)
A hearing aid acclimatising to the user's audio environment

Only about 20% of Americans with hearing loss have hearing aids, because of the stigma of hearing aid use and concerns about lack of benefit. The design of the Sound Activity Meter (SAM) signals consumer electronics, as opposed to a disability aid. Based on an analysis of the user's everyday audio environment, the SAM determines which type of hearing device meets the user's specific needs and configures and custom fits the device for the user.
