Walking Buddies
Walking Buddies gives children exercise, creates relations and helps families in their everyday life
The idea came from an 8th grade student, who in a school theme week about innovation introduced Walking Buddies with the headline “Less stressful mornings in families with children.” Walking Buddies is a free offer for families with children in 0. - 3rd grade to have their children met at home by an older student from 6th . 8th grade and they walk to school together. The older students work voluntarily and have passed a course in traffic safety, communication and first-aid before they become a part of the Walking Buddies project. The project helps families with children to have less stressful mornings and at the same time the students get more exercise and a good relationship between the young and older students develop. The Walking Buddies project is meaningful because it gives the students important competences regarding responsibility, traffic and traffic regulations as the older students become role models for the younger students at school.
