The Garment-to-Garment (G2G) Recycle System
In-store recycling system for used garments
How does it work?
The Garment-to-Garment (G2G) Recycle System is a mini-scale production line set up in a retail shop, recycling post-consumer garments into new ones. It demonstrates an integral and closed-loop garment recycling process. It is an environmentally friendly process without using any water and chemicals.
The recycling process can be configured in a 40-foot container, including the 3-in-1 Integrated Opening-Cleaning-Carding System with AI algorithms to optimise the system.
Why is it needed?
Over 120 billion garments per year are produced worldwide, and the mountains of textile waste are growing accordingly. The fast fashion industry is responsible for a significant part of this. Where they once brought out four collections a year, cheap clothing chains now create up to 52 micro-collections annually (DW). Having in-store recycling options could be a part of lowering fast fashion's devastating impact on the planet.
How does it improve life?
The G2G recycling system has won the iF Gold Design Award 2022, Good Design Award 2021, and the 2021 Good Design Award – Best 100 among others. One store has opened in The Mills, 45 Pak Tin Par Street, Tsuen Wan, Hong Kong. The initiative is supported by Novetex and H&M Foundation.
