The elevated benches of Denmark
Heightening benches in the capital to spread awareness on the consequences of climate change
How does it work?
These benches look exactly like the classic, dark green city benches that adorn streets and alleys throughout the country of Denmark. The only difference is that they are raised by 85 centimetres, and thus they are almost impossible to climb unless you get a horseshoe.
Why is it needed?
The benches have been raised by 85 cm to make climate change visible and clear to all Danes. They are part of a campaign that TV 2 has launched, which will focus on global temperature increases, which will, among other things, create increased water levels and floods. Research from UN shows that the water level in the world's oceans will rise by up to 1 meter by 2100. However, the picture looks even more gloomy according to Danish researchers, who point out that the sea may rise faster and cause an increase of 1.35 meters in Denmark by 2100.
How does it improve life?
The 15 elevated benches are located at several prominent addresses in Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen and will be there for four weeks. The benches will subsequently be reused or recycled by the manufacturer GH Form.
