Reeddi
Fair clean energy supplier and allied innovations for communities in energy-poor regions.
How does it work?
Reeddi Capsules are charged in Reeddi Energy stations strategically positioned in communities with solar-powered stations.
Fully charged capsules are rented out, with the flexibility of selecting a specified time period. These capsules are used to power most home electronics and other Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) devices.
After the capsule's total energy capacity is consumed, the consumer must return it to a Reeddi Energy station. Another feature of this service is that customers can claim reward points after returning the capsule. The reward points are added to the customer's account and can be applied to purchase/offset any service offered by Reeddi.
Why is it needed?
Over 1.2 billion people currently live without access to electricity globally, and data from the UN shows that over 600 million Africans live without steady access to electricity. Energy poses a significant challenge, yet affordable access to clean and reliable energy will unlock national and global opportunities for over 70 million Nigerians currently living without power. Reeddi sustainably provides clean energy at a price point that individuals and businesses operating in poor energy territories of the world can afford.
How does it improve life?
A study conducted by Reddi reveals that more than 40% of the daily expenses of businesses and individuals in Nigeria are spent on self-generated electricity; Reeddi reduces this cost to less than 10%.
Reeddi's unique system was developed based on personal experiences of growing up in Nigeria and through an extensive energy study conducted to design a solution. The solution is structured as a daily rental model to allow those on the lower-income spectrum to use energy systems effortlessly. Reeddi's innovation targets rural and urban African communities where trustworthy and affordable energy access is still a challenge. Additionally, it creates small and medium scale energy-based businesses in participating communities creating more jobs and independent communities with an improved standard of living.
