WHAT MATTER_S 2.0 is a initiative to connect local designer and large-size manufacturing companies in the region of the South of Sweden to do research and development – with the task of developing new sustainable materials out of the companies’ waste/residue. Through an open call process followed by a matchmaking event, six designers and six manufacturers have been paired up to collaborate for eight months. The purpose of this project is to showcase the innovative power of interdisciplinary collaboration, to jointly experiment, research and illustrate new materials that are being developed right now, looking for the opportunity for production and commercialisation. Designers are given the chance to contact and work with major companies in the region, and the companies are given the chance to see the benefits of implementing “design thinking” as a development method.
