The Indus Project: Tiles
These moulded clay tiles help manage waste water treatment, using algae to filter out pollutants
Water contamination is a really prevalent problem in countries such as India where textiles and jewellery are made and dyed.
These modular clay tiles are designed to filter out these pollutants. They are designed from a leaf, using the micro veins to form a channel for the water to pass through. These tiles are made from traditional clay making techniques and so can be reused. The tiles are then coated with a a seaweed-based hydrogel algae which can be manufactured to recover heavy metals safely.
This project aims to help artisans treat water on a local level in a simple and sustainable way. The modular design enables the tiles to be fitted to the space and location available at specific sites.
