LA County has the 2nd highest population of those experiencing homelessness in the nation at nearly 59,000, and unofficially estimated over 100,000, 75% unsheltered. While clean laundry does not address the deeper causes and challenges of homelessness, it does help improve the day-to-day livelihood, self-confidence, hygiene, and future opportunities for this underserved population. With the LA Fashion District situated alongside the community of Skid Row, the mission to serve the homeless became clear to clothing company, DOLAN, in Fall of 2017. In 2018, DOLAN set out to build the truck through private donations and received support from many. TLTLA began serving the community in January 2019 with 5 sets of washers & dryers, a folding station, a water heater, and propane tanks on a 16' trailer.
