Glass is an ideal material for a circular economy. It is abundant, inert, reusable and recyclable. However in most cities glass is discarded after one use, and crushed for construction material. Remark has developed an energy efficient recycled glass blowing method, where each bottle is heated one at a time and reformed by hand using traditional tools. The studio weaves together bottles from the local community and transforms them into functional homeware. The character of the bottle, it's markings and color remain after its transformation to a drinking glass, serving bowl or pendant light. As people interact with Remark they tend to shift their perspective on glass. They donate their glass to the studio and save bottles from special events to be transformed into keepsakes. The Champagne Bottle Keepsake Bowl shows how Remark customizes would be waste from a wedding reception into an heirloom that encourages memories and conversation about sustainability at the center of the table.
