Learning system to achieve the correct washing of teeth in people with Down Syndrome.
Periodontal disease is one of the most common illnesses in people with Down syndrome. This ailment affects and consumes gums, which can result in pain, loss of teeth and consequently, a bad and negative self-image. The only way to prevent this is through a good dental hygiene. Dimo is a learning system designed to teach the basic foundations of oral care (including prevention and maintenance, among others) to kids with Down syndrome. The method comprises several stages aimed to teach a kid that his mouth can get dirty and the correct usage of the toothbrush in order to achieve an effective dental hygiene and ensure a successful learning of the tooth brushing process. To support the aforementioned process and assist kids to become more autonomous and independent in a so important and basic activity, Dimo also includes an app that serves as the kid’s guide and companion during the brushing activity.
