Bureo: Net Positiva
Net Positiva collects & recycles discarded fishnets to protect marine environments
Bureo’s Net Positiva program partners with fishing communities to collect discarded fishnets to prevent harmful waste which makes up 10% of the oceans’ plastic pollution. Discarded nets are transformed into a raw material for use in innovative products, while generating funds for communities that are most affected by these forms of waste. In the first year of operations the Net Positiva program collected and recycled 10 tons of materials, and is now on pace to recycle 200 tons in 2017 from over 25 communities. Bureo designs and manufactures a unique line of sustainable products, including skateboards and sunglasses. Expanding this mission, Bureo is partnering with reputable industry leaders to launch a range of high quality and long life products to utilize the collected fishing net waste. Bureo’s proven model is sustainable and scalable, enabling Net Positiva to expand to fishing communities globally and have a positive impact on people and the environment.
