BackToMarket® Earthy sneaker
Upcycled shoes made with agriculture and aquaculture material and wastes.
How does it work?
Ccilu use 2 kinds of sustainable fabrics to make the sneaker upper. Shoe vamp material is made from corn, which reduce 38% petroleum used compared to traditional upper material. Upper lining is made from wasted oyster shell, which ease the impact from aquaculture wastes. For outsole material, Ccilu uses bamboo and tea stalks wastes as a substitution material for petro-based material. From appearance design perspective, Ccilu designs the sneaker to a classic vintage style. With the classic style and breakthrough in material technologies, Ccilu upcycles the wastes in our daily lives and reminds people to rethink the relationship between products and our environment.
Why is it needed?
The worldwide demand for new sources of food has increased exponentially, and following that tendency, the mariculture—especially the oyster culture—has been increasingly resorting to farming techniques. In 2016, 438 billion tons of oysters were produced. Most of the shells were unduly discarded, presenting a public health problem. At the same time, in traditional sneaker industry, most sneaker components are made from petro-based material. Ccilu come up with the designs and the tech of upcycling agriculture and aquaculture wastes and turning them into every major component of BackToMarket® Earthy sneaker. The product contributes to upcycling multiple kinds of wastes and embracing the circular economy.
How does it improve life?
The upper fabric Sorona® is derived from the corn glucose which is a wonderful renewable resource. It is two times anti-UV, anti- Chlorine, softer, and more resilient than conventional sneaker fabric. Sorona® upper reduces the petro-based fabric by 38% and reduce the carbon emission by 63%. The Back lining adopt the SeaWool® technology which is made from upcycled oyster shell wastes and plastic bottles. The innovative fabric carries the far-infrared which reduces the odor by 64% and eliminate the microbial and bacterial by 95%. BackToMarket® Earthy persists with all the core values of a high-quality sneaker and offers unique footwear experiences while it is made from multiple kinds of wastes, with sustainable mindsets and technologies. CCILU is committed to local communities and giving back to society and aims to promote social innovation through product innovation. With every 50 BackToMarket®Sneakers sold, $2300 NTD will be donated to local charity.
