SO-FI
Moudular floating system with the purpose of purifying pollutants and improving water quality.
How does it work?
The floats contain "Eichhornia crassipes", an aquatic plant with a great capacity to absorb nutrients and heavy metals from the water. But at the same time this plant is a plague, so it must be carefully applied in the ecosystem. The modules are configured by means of links to be able to cover the necessary surface area. Perimeters could be created to contain even larger volumes of plants in order to harvest them efficiently at the end of their life cycle. The floats can be moved together on the water surface so as not to interfere with other activities, such as fishing or recreational activities.
Why is it needed?
With climate change, water pollution problems are becoming more and more frequent. This project was born to solve the problems of "Cyanobacteria" blooms in Argentina, which during warm seasons tend to appear in large quantities in lakes, rivers and freshwater ponds. These organisms cause concentrations of toxins in the water that are detrimental to general health and also add to the problems of being processed at water purification plants for distribution to the domestic network.
How does it improve life?
Water is a basic resource, it is necessary for all living beings and we are responsible for taking care of it. Also keep in mind that water is used for other ends, such as economic and tourism purposes, which is why these sectors are directly affected horizontally by environmental pollution.
